Springtime + Twins.

It has been a wild ride these last few weeks. Our twins arrived at 35.5 weeks on the 8th of March. If you’d like to hear more about my birth story send me a message, I’m happy to share! Fortunately, I planned ahead of time and decided not to take on any weddings during the months of March or April, just in case something like this happened. We’ve been home since the 12th and are slowly but surely finding some balance and a nice little rhythm at home. We’ve been so fortunate to have a tremendous amount of help and support. Friends have come by with food, cleaning skills, baby holding energy, and support for Jason while studio construction continues. My parents have been amazing while they get to know their new (and first) grandbabies. It’s really special to be able to sleep a little bit and wake up to someone who will cook you breakfast. Banana pancakes this morning, thanks Mom! My sister arrives tomorrow night and I can’t wait to introduce her to her nephew and niece!

The other day the sun was shining and the guys were getting our built planters ready for the Spring garden. It’s Jason’s mission to be able to feed us as much homegrown goodies as possible. I love him so much for that. He has been incredible, taking night time diaper and feeding duties so I can sleep a little extra as well as working hard all day on the garden and studio construction. I really struck gold when I found that man. It was such a blessing to be able to walk around the yard with my camera for a little while. I hadn’t realized how long it had been since I had taken pictures. Even though it will be hard to leave such little babies at home, I am really looking forward to returning to work in May. My first wedding is in the middle of the month. I am grateful to have so much time to recover and rebuild my strength before then. I will be available to book family and portrait sessions in mid-April! The weather will be even more consistently beautiful and so many wonderful flowers will be in bloom.

I really look forward to some lovely Spring sessions! I’m also adding Senior Portraits to my menu, ask me about my portfolio building discounts! ♥♥♥

And now…some pretty Spring photos and my sweet babes.

Happy Mardi Gras.

The following images have absolutely nothing to do with Mardi Gras. I can’t help it…I’m hours from New Orleans and too pregnant to attend. Either way, I’m in a sharing mood and dying to play with photos. I took a walk around the yard the other day, when it was significantly warmer and sunnier than today. I have been following the work of some incredible photographers lately and am really inspired for my next session. I truly can’t wait to get a family or couple in front of my camera sometime, sooner rather than later would be ideal…♥

This family is made of Diamonds.

“The soul is placed in the body like a rough diamond, and must be polished, or the luster of it will never appear.” – Daniel Defoe

Here is a family, the Diamond family, who has certainly polished their love and affection for one another. Closeness doesn’t come easy in any relationship. You have to be willing to open yourself up to vulnerability if you are going to love and be joyful. I believe 5 people, 2 dogs, 1 car, and over 2,000 miles traveled is more than enough opportunity to experience the previously mentioned emotions as well as a few others. I met Alicia (the red head with the to die for personality and eyes to match) in Marfa, TX last year while on a personal photography/road trip pilgrimage. We’ve stayed in touch over the the months that have passed. Mostly we’ve admired and encouraged one another on the photographer front. She is incredibly talented and you should check out her work sometime!

I couldn’t have been more flattered and excited when she got in touch with me about her family trip south and her desire to have me take their portraits. It’s always humbling to have artists I admire reciprocate that by supporting my business. The best part was spending time with her and meeting her wonderful family. Together, they were one of the kindest, gentlest families I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. I love that everyone looked sharp, but stayed true to their own style at the same time. I hope they enjoy these images for years and years and more…Alicia + Family-french-quarter-new-orleans-family-photos-purple-turquoise-grey_Blog_01Alicia + Family-french-quarter-new-orleans-family-photos-purple-turquoise-grey_Blog_07Alicia + Family-french-quarter-new-orleans-family-photos-purple-turquoise-grey_Blog_08Alicia + Family-french-quarter-new-orleans-family-photos-purple-turquoise-grey_Blog_02 Alicia + Family-french-quarter-new-orleans-family-photos-purple-turquoise-grey_Blog_03 Alicia + Family-french-quarter-new-orleans-family-photos-purple-turquoise-grey_Blog_04 Alicia + Family-french-quarter-new-orleans-family-photos-purple-turquoise-grey_Blog_05 Alicia + Family-french-quarter-new-orleans-family-photos-purple-turquoise-grey_Blog_06
