The following images have absolutely nothing to do with Mardi Gras. I can’t help it…I’m hours from New Orleans and too pregnant to attend. Either way, I’m in a sharing mood and dying to play with photos. I took a walk around the yard the other day, when it was significantly warmer and sunnier than today. I have been following the work of some incredible photographers lately and am really inspired for my next session. I truly can’t wait to get a family or couple in front of my camera sometime, sooner rather than later would be ideal…♥

“The soul is placed in the body like a rough diamond, and must be polished, or the luster of it will never appear.” – Daniel Defoe
Here is a family, the Diamond family, who has certainly polished their love and affection for one another. Closeness doesn’t come easy in any relationship. You have to be willing to open yourself up to vulnerability if you are going to love and be joyful. I believe 5 people, 2 dogs, 1 car, and over 2,000 miles traveled is more than enough opportunity to experience the previously mentioned emotions as well as a few others. I met Alicia (the red head with the to die for personality and eyes to match) in Marfa, TX last year while on a personal photography/road trip pilgrimage. We’ve stayed in touch over the the months that have passed. Mostly we’ve admired and encouraged one another on the photographer front. She is incredibly talented and you should check out her work sometime!
I couldn’t have been more flattered and excited when she got in touch with me about her family trip south and her desire to have me take their portraits. It’s always humbling to have artists I admire reciprocate that by supporting my business. The best part was spending time with her and meeting her wonderful family. Together, they were one of the kindest, gentlest families I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. I love that everyone looked sharp, but stayed true to their own style at the same time. I hope they enjoy these images for years and years and more…

It was so wonderful to see this little man after a year from his last session. MJ’s one year baby photos are full of fun and smiles. We lucked out with the weather and enjoyed a warm breezy hour in the French Quarter. He was all over the place when we started but eventually settled down when we found a comfy little step and some happy tunes to sing to him. I can’t get over how adorable you are MJ…and so happy! One of the best parts about taking a little time off from shooting is that I get to blog a bit more. I know there have been an overwhelming number of posts about my pregnancy and I appreciate everyone’s patience while I adjust and enjoy this phase of my life. I am really excited to share some true work with you today though…
